How to Turn Your Passion into a Business on Etsy

  1. Use Adobe Photoshop to edit photos of your product.
It’s important to have high-quality photos of your product as the display photos in your Etsy shop listings. Etsy recommends shop owners photograph their products in natural light with no flash and against a clean, simple background. Using Photoshop, edit out any markings on the wall with the Clone Stamp tool and adjust the lighting and colors using the Adjustments panel.

Pro tip: Use a bed sheet to create a clean background inside your house! Set it up near a window for perfect natural lighting.

  2. Create branding materials using Adobe Illustrator.
To make yourself stand out as a seller on Etsy, it’s important to create branding materials. Each Etsy shop has a profile picture, which shop owners typically use for their logo. You can design your own logo using Adobe Illustrator. First, decide what you want your brand to be. For inspiration, check out some free logo templates here. Next, find the fonts you want to use for your logo. Adobe Fonts has thousands of free fonts you can use and several font packs for more inspiration. Now, start designing your logo in Adobe Illustrator! Etsy’s profile picture for shops is a square, so remember to make your logo on a square artboard.

If you want variations of your logo to use for flyers and watermarks, make sure to use a consistent theme. Keep the number of different fonts to a minimum — three is usually a good number. The more consistent your branding, the easier it will be to market yourself on Etsy and social media!
  3. Add promotional videos to your listings with Adobe Premiere Rush.
Promotional videos are helpful to show people what exactly you’re offering in your Etsy shop and how your products look in real life. You can easily create promotional videos to use on social media or to add on your Etsy listings with Adobe Premiere Rush on your smartphone.

Simply create a new project and add your video and photo clips. Make sure to title your project.
